TAKING CARE OF BONSAI TREES

When it comes to pruning, and taking care of bonsai trees, remember the three main reasons for doing it.

To remove unwanted branches, to maintain its shape, or to encourage new growth. It is vital that all cuts are as neat and unobtrusive as possible so they dont mar an otherwise attractive tree.

Careless pruning can lead to unsightly scars on the tree. Immediately sealing with Japanese cut paste will prevent this. This putty like material keeps the cut edge moist, preventing contraction of surrounding tissue. If the real Japanese paste is hard to find, it is possible to use a childs synthetic modelling clay, mixed with a little olive oil to prevent it hardening.
