Beginning Bonsai
Creating any type of bonsai tree is a long term commitment,
but the results for those with the patience are great. It can take literally
years of tender care for a bonsai tree to take the shape required.
When starting out, it is important to choose a plant that
will prosper in the conditions that you are able to provide.
Practically any plant is suitable to become a bonsai, but
some are better suited than others.
Growing your own bonsai is the least costly option when
starting out. You can start with a seed or a cutting, and you dont need a
fancy pot to grow it in. The only negative aspect to this route is the time
needed to start to see results.
When buying an already established bonsai tree, be prepared
to pay more for an older tree. It will have been nurtured and brought along just
as you would hope to do yourself. So, as a rule, the older the plant, the
higher the cost. Always buy the best
tree you can afford, and always look after it, as you would a good friend.
Remember too, that buying your plant from an experienced
professional dealer is prudent. They will be able to offer you advice and will
also be enthusiasts.
